Gordy is an example of what it looks like for many dogs.
In this case his mother got pregnant but the owner didn´t care about her puppies. They ended up on a chain in a dark shed for them to guard.
They sat there until they were finally rescued and taken to the shelter. The many years of starvation, humidity, extreme temperatures and parasites left them in a terrible condition.
Gordy was hospitalized fairly quickly as his skin tore open like tissue paper. Besides his skin infections, which were caused by the chains on various limbs (!), he had filaria, rickettsia, pneumonia, pulmonary edema, pancreatitis. His liver was barely functioning.
He came to my house but eventually died..
Sterilization can prevent a lot of suffering!
